Jig for Bending Hull Planks This assembly jig is designed to help you achieve the perfect, smooth curves for the hull planks of the Santa María caravel. It can also be used for similar operations when building other kits produced by Ships of Pavel Nikitin.
Important notice: Do not attempt to bend a plank to its final curve in one go. Follow this three-step process for best results:
- Slightly moisten the plank and secure it in the Template 1 jig. Let it dry completely.
- Once dry, moisten the plank again and secure it in Template 2. Allow it to dry.
- For the final curve, moisten the plank one last time and secure it in Template 3. Let it dry.
If a plank requires less curvature, you may not need to use all three templates. Simply stop the process once you have achieved the desired curve.
Assembly instructions: Please note that the corresponding numbered templates must be glued together. Use the rectangular splines provided in the kit to secure and reinforce the bond.
